Why players pick it

Six reasons to pick the Rookie Starter Racket

Your first racket, or a pair of them so a friend can try padel with you.

From$65.00

30-day returns · Tracked delivery in 5-8 business days

  1. Soft foam core forgives the off-center hits you will be making a lot of at first

  2. Round head puts the sweet spot in the middle of the face, where beginners actually hit

  3. Light and easy to swing, so an hour on court does not wreck your arm

  4. The 2-player pack is a complete kit - two rackets, two balls and a zipped bag

  5. Costs a fraction of a carbon frame, which matters if you are still deciding whether padel is your sport

  6. Molded edge guard and a wrist strap, both of which budget rackets often skip

Technical notes

Why it plays like that

What is inside the frame, and what it does to the ball.

01

Soft foam core

The core absorbs most of the impact instead of sending it up your forearm. It costs you power, and at this level that is a trade worth making.

02

ABS composite face

A molded plastic face rather than a woven carbon one. Softer, slower and far cheaper - and durable enough to survive being dropped on concrete.

03

Round head

The widest part of the face sits in the middle, which is where a new player makes contact. The sweet spot is the biggest of the three padel shapes.

04

62 air holes

Drilled through the face to cut wind resistance so the racket moves faster through the swing.

05

Molded edge guard

Protects the rim from the wall and the floor, the two things that kill a beginner's racket first.

06

Wrist strap

Fitted as standard. On a padel court a flying racket is a real hazard, and most clubs expect you to use one.

Details

The Rookie is a first padel racket - and a second one for whoever you talk into coming to the court with you.

The frame is ABS with a soft foam core. It is not carbon, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. What it buys you is forgiveness: the face gives instead of punishing an off-center hit, the racket is easy to swing, and it costs a fraction of what a carbon frame does. If you have never played padel and you are not yet sure you will stick with it, this is the sensible way to find out.

The two-player option arrives as a complete kit - two rackets, two balls and a zipped carry bag - so a pair of you can book a court and play the same afternoon.

Read this before you buy. The frame measures 18.5 in end to end, and the International Padel Federation caps sanctioned rackets at 17.9 in, so this one is not legal for ranked competition. Nobody measures at a club session or on a holiday court, but if you are entering a real tournament, buy a different racket.

One more correction: the supplier data sheet calls the face carbon fiber. The manufacturer's own box says ABS frame with a soft foam core, and the box is right. We would rather correct our own listing than repeat a claim we cannot stand behind.

Keep the racket out of a hot car and out of direct sun. Change the overgrip when it stops feeling tacky, and check the protector before it wears through to the frame.
